An intervention may come medically and force you to change or you will decide to take back control of your life and make the change yourself.
Don't miss out on the joy and the experiences because the strength and energy you require isn't there. Give yourself the chance to participate and the strength to do everything you can.
When your confidence is low you don't feel good about yourself. You don't feel like anything fits. Stop hiding behind baggy t-shirts and start feeling the joy that strength brings to your confidence.
Having a scheduled appointment with proper guidance, programming & accountability is key to gain & maximize results. It's THE ultimate habit builder.
As you age, things stop being so easy. It's harder to do your daily life activities, stay active and keep up with life. Learn how to help preserve your health.
Confidence is a common result to getting in shape and taking care of yourself. When you invest in yourself and can see it in the mirror every day, it brings a major boost in confidence.
Research says that it takes approximately 6 months to create a strong habit. Many clients get there easily with a prescheduled appointment that fits within their time/schedule. This Accountability, Programming and coaching maximizes their results.
When your energy compounds and you feel healthy, stronger, and confident, it all comes together. Then you realise you feel a lot younger than you actually are.
Routine is easy when you have a few things in place:
I remember being shocked as a young kid when I found out my best friend's Dad was training for a 1/2 marathon and biking to work. (from Ashton to Bell's corners.) This man was already very strong as a firefighter. It really impressed me to see that level of fitness. To learn it was possible. His Dad (Pat) passed away from a brain tumor in 2006. I drove up to Ottawa from college almost every weekend to be with my best friend during this time. To see someone so strong go through that battle made me realize the importance of health for all of us. Just to do our best to preserve our longevity. 16 years later I'm still passionate about it. I know my best friend is too.
Positive Movement Fitness was started to help people preserve that longevity, helps clients feel at their best, their strongest and consistently move forward with achieving their goals.
I place a lot of value in Stress, Sleep, Nutrition and Exercise. Here are a few tips that can instantly help you start getting more energy and move you towards a better health journey.

I have spoken with so many clients that have been unsuccessful at a weight loss program or tried a new plan every few months without success. I bring a number of skills that help maintain a successful plan, including a functional health coaching certification that is specifically in tune with working on behavior change.
You don't need to be in shape to see a personal trainer. In fact, it will be much easier for us to identify your strengths and opportunities if we see where you're at currently. This will allow us to work on the biggest opportunities for health improvement first.
It's definitely hard to find time for many people who work full time or have children or both.
I usually can find a time that works for most of my clients that fits within their balanced schedule.
Many of my clients get time back from working out. Their energy & strength goes way up. This gets them moving more and on the couch less.
Personal Trainers are definitely not within everyone's budget. Here are a few things I would say though.
Many people who are not in shape and in pain are seeing multiple practitioners weekly. (chiro, massage, physio, accupuncture) I sometimes wonder how much "maintenance" on the body could be avoided with even 1x Personal Training per week.
I have had conversations with clients who spend a lot of money on things that lead to their health decline:
Example:
Fast Food: $100-150/week
Alcohol: $30-50/week
Coffee: $25-40/week
Total: $155-240 conservatively
I'm not the fun police. I can assure you of that. But if we're all being honest. $ spent is based on value. If you value your health. routine, professional guidance. A good personal trainer can be a great idea for many people.
As an experienced marathoner, I can tell you that cardio (many classes) and strength are very different and they have different effects on overall health and well-being. Excessive cardio is more catabolic (breaking down muscle) whereas strength training is more anabolic (building up muscle). It's my experience that you will see further gains in your overall health and performance by adding strength training into your routine.
The 4 pillars of stress, sleep, nutrition, and exercise are very important. Everyone needs to manage these pillars, but especially as we age and try to balance competing demands. My thoughts: Too much stress can 👉 rouine sleep, deflate energy levels in exercise, and lead to stress eating. Poor sleep can 👉 inflate stress/anxiety, deflate energy levels in exercise, lead to stress eating. Poor nutrition can 👉 inflame/stress the body, deflate energy levels in exercise, lead to additional stress via weight gain, energy loss, inflammation, and health repercussions.
Based on my experience, everyone is different and what works for one person may not work for you. I think it's very important to look at clients from a 👉 biomechanical standpoint and assess them to make sure that they're ready for the rigors of exercise. 👉 It's important to slowly bring clients into a weight lifting program and introduce them to cardio, progressively adding muscle.
I believe that proper fitness for the generalist (not the bodybuilder, powerlifter, or elite.) is......🥁 PARTICIPATION or "All Around Development." Whether you're interested in hiking, CrossFit, completing a 1/2 marathon, an obstacle race, or trying skiing. Let's get you to a point where you can be in the best shape to achieve the results you're looking for and go after your individual mountain peak.
It's important in any coaching relationship to work with the client on habit change. Every one of us has our own character traits, habits, and tactics for changing our habits. It's important for me to evoke each client's intrinsic motivation and find the best way of creating big change in their life.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
